Televangelists
Television evangelists freak me out. To me they all sound fake, and I believe they use God’s name and the Bible to make large sums of money. In my opinion, money is the biggest reason for what they do. In no way when I watch any of them do I feel like they actually care about outreach. I’m writing this, because I happened to stop on one of them for a couple minutes this morning while I waited for the Chiefs game to come on. This is what I heard as soon as I flipped to that channel…
“For those of you that have credit card debt. I want you to trust God that he will wipe out your credit card debt. I want you to get up, go to your phone, call that number on your screen, and use your credit card to give your $1000 gift today. Trust God that he will wipe out that debt.”
It’s almost laughable, but more than that it makes you wonder how people who call themselves Christians can live with the fact that they are taking advantage of people who don’t know any better. It’s sickening at best.
Here is an article I came across from U.S. News and World Report. Investigating Televangelist Finances.
I’m not even going to throw out names, but Kansas City has a couple of evangelists who themselves raise suspicion when it comes to church finances, and I wish more would be done to reveal who those people really are.
